Made using pure New Zealand grown barley, locally malted and heavily smoked with South Island peat.
This peat has a distinctly different flavour than that found in a traditional Islay whisky from Scotland, it errs more on the side of sweet and ashy rather than harsh and earthy. That being said it’s far from an entry-level peated whisky and is packed to the brim with flavour to rival the best Islay has to offer.
Flavour is maximised by adopting a single slow pot distillation ‘on the grain’ so that as much of the malt oils and grain sweetness carry over along with the intense and distinctive peat smoke profile.
The final distillate is then aged in ex-red, French oak barrels from the Hawkes Bay to further enhance the flavour balance.
This is a bold whisky made to showcase the best New Zealand has to offer.
Best enjoyed neat or with a splash of water.
